Grant Associates worked on the framework plan for the regeneration of the New Islington area of Manchester, the Government’s third Millennium Community. CSG worked closely with the architects from Grant Associates during the design and oversaw production of the unique cast iron tree grills and public art pieces. The pieces incorporate plant like designs and are made from traditional cast iron so that they weather and oxidise to give a more organic feel.

Following the success of the New Islington project CSG again worked with Grant Associates on an urban development project. For this project we supplied narrative tactile paving which was embossed with words relating to the traditional industries of the area.

This project required a D400 Ductile iron cover and frame which was recessed for block paving and spanned 2460 x 2140mm. At the time this request was made no such product existed so CSG worked closely with the contractor, designers and manufacturer to provide a bespoke solution.

We were able to produce a hybrid product which satisfied the specification for this high profile project.

CSG provided a number of large bore valves to the Old River Tees Pumping Station including three specially manufactured 600mm Non-Return Valves fitted with bypasses. The pumping station is one of Northumbrian Water’s largest pumping stations located on an old loop of the river downstream from the Tees Barrage. It receives sewage generated in Stockton, Thornaby and Middlesbrough before transferring it across the river through rising mains located in a 700 m long tunnel.

Originally installed during Victorian times the sewer system has been updated to reduce flood risks and comes at a cost of £120M and encompasses over 10km of pipeline. It has won a number of awards for innovation and is the largest develop-ment project ever undertaken in Belfast. The following were installed within the system:- 6 x 1200mm Gate Valves with Rotork Actuators, 2 x 700mm Non-Return Valves with Bypass, 2 x 700 Gate Valve with Rotork Actuators, 2 x 700 Gate Valve with Manual Gearbox, 2 x 250mm Gate Valve with Rotork Actuators

CSG provided two 1200mm Hydraulic Cylinder Gate Valves as part of the East Hull Pump Station overhaul. CSG worked in partnership with Pacific Valves Ltd on the £16m flood prevention project commissioned by Yorkshire Water. Due to the low ground levels in and around Hull flooding can often be an issue.

The new pumping stations will help with help control drainage in the area and prevent future flooding.
