MEA Topslot TSH – Lancaster Castle

Overview

Castings Services Ltd have supplied the MEA Topslot TSH system to a contractor working on the historic Lancaster Castle.

Owned by the serving monarch, HM Queen Elizabeth II, through the Duchy of Lancaster, Lancaster Castle is a wealth of English history. Built on the ruins of an old Roman fort, the Castle has been a home to monarchs, a place of trial and execution (including the 1612 trial of the Pendle Witches!), and a working prison right up until 2012. Still a Crown Court, the majority of the Castle opened to the public in 2013 and in addition to guided tours and events, the Castle grounds host a café and a gift shop, with further renovations ongoing to open up more of the Castle to tourists.

The Challenge

The sales team at Castings Services Ltd were tasked with supplying 124m of discrete linear channel drain to improve the drainage of the site, whilst maintaining its historic aesthetics.

With tourists visiting regularly and minimal storage space available on site, the unusually narrow windows for delivery and installation posed a challenge that, improperly handled, could lead to construction delays, local congestion and reduced tourism for the Castle.

The Solution

The elegant line management and high functionality of the MEA Topslot TSH system provided the perfect solution.

The architecturally attractive 5mm slim slot design provided a discrete, inconspicuous appearance to the channel’s excellent hydraulic capacity of 15L per second which comfortably deals with the North West England’s infamous rainfall demands!

Due to the site restrictions and limited on site storage, Castings Services Ltd agreed to hold the stock ex-yard in Salford and deliver according to the needs of the contractor on site. The simple and fast assembly of the MEA Topslot TSH system resulted in a smooth, timely installation and allowed the Castle to open to tourists as planned throughout.
